Learn About Us

Mzizi-Yethu Foundation Organisation

Our story is a unique story, one of the many untold stories of the underdeveloped regions of the Globe. It is a story of dreamers, a story of doers and a story of few game changers who have the will and passion to influence many towards responsible citizenship and sustainable livelihoods. Our name, Mzizi-Yethu (Our Roots), is a Swahili name which uniquely projects our broad perspective in seeking to address challenges stalling development in Africa at grassroots levels. Mzizi-Yethu Foundation is a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) founded on the premises of Sustainable Developmental Goals, more specifically SDG 04. The SDG 04 aims to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. The central idea is of enhancing the innovativeness and employability of the youthful generation through promoting grassroots innovation, upskilling youths and assisting schools in underprivileged communities. Our belief is that right kind of knowledge is an illuminating light that beams through dull pathways of development for the poor and underprivileged population in lagging communities. We believe that so much can be improved if emphasis is placed on honing digital skills of youths towards formulating new business solutions and sustainable wealth creation initiatives that are supported by technology.
“To create a future where underprivileged communities in Africa have equitable access to quality education, innovative opportunities and knowledge resources that support sustainable development.”
“Our mission is to drive tangible development towards a purposeful existence through an impartial and non-profit making strategic action. We emphasize the cognitive well-being of individuals and we coin top-tier ideas for addressing socio-economic challenges, considering both immediate concerns and future trends. Through our efforts, we strive to transform education, empower individuals, and create a pathway for sustainable development and social change”

Our Strategy

THE MZIZI-YETHU R & D MODEL

The foundational strategy that Mzizi-Yethu Foundation is identified with is called The Mzizi-Yethu R & D model. This is the cornerstone of the entity which stresses the importance of addressing a problem using the bottom-up strategy (i.e., from grassroots Mzizi) and equally valuing research and development to drive progress. Grassroots innovation refers to novel solutions developed at the community level, often in response to local challenges and needs. Instead of top-down, solutions created from bottom-up processes using formal R & D driven by local contexts have high magnitude of success. Mzizi-Yethu R & D model is founded on four core pillars:

NEGLECTED PROBLEM IN THE AFRICAN EDUCATION SYSTEM

The Mzizi-Yethu R & D Model in Evaluating the Digital Divide in the African Education System:

Genchi Genbutsu:

Application to the Digital Divide: To truly understand the extent and nuances of the digital divide in the African education system, it is crucial to go to the source - the schools, students, and communities. Only by firsthand observation and interaction can the challenges - such as lack of infrastructure, equipment, or training - be effectively identified and addressed.

Application to the Digital Divide: Engaging local communities, educators, and students in the process of digital inclusion is essential. Their insights, feedback, and collaboration ensure that solutions are relevant, effective, and sustainable. The approach also promotes unity and cohesion, as communities work together towards digital literacy and accessibility rather than competing for scarce resources.

Application to the Digital Divide: By providing communities with the tools, training, and resources they need, the Mzizi-Yethu R & D model advocates for empowering local entities to navigate and improve their own digital ecosystems. This fosters self-reliance and ensures that solutions are sustainable, tailored, and owned by the communities themselves.

Application to the Digital Divide: Sustainable digital integration in education should be in harmony with the local environment and culture. Learning from nature, solutions should be efficient, adaptable, and resilient, much like natural ecosystems. This could include using local materials or renewable energy sources to power digital tools or designing digital education programs that align with local ecological cycles and traditions.
